What do I get in an assessment? Why do you charge for this service?

Our assessment is a custom system design process. Renewable Energy is very site specific and to give more than a very rough ballpark price, the system has to be custom designed for your needs based on a thorough assessment of your site conditions and needs. The design process takes several hours and results in a custom solar system design. The cost of your assessment will be credited against the cost of installing your system if you choose VREC as your supplier and installer.

With your report you will receive:

  • Site visit to determine suitability of the site for solar.
  • Information about local solar irradiation (and wind data if applicable) and potential energy production at the site
  • Estimation of annual energy production (based on the shading patterns, the angle of the panels and and local weather data).
  • Size of system(s) based on budget and/or dimensions of roof.
  • Estimation of greenhouse gas emission reductions
  • Design of custom system to meet your needs with list of all components required
  • Cost of system
  • Information on energy savings from the system
  • Amount system would offset current consumption (if available)
  • Grants and incentives available if any
  • Information on energy conservation opportunities at the site

Residential Solar PV Assessment – $200*

  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site, system design, potential greenhouse gas offsets and a quote for a system that would meet your specific needs.
  • Also includes an analysis of opportunities for electrical consumption reduction to help compliment your system.

Residential Multiple Solar Systems Assessment – $300 *

  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site for three different solar energy systems – Solar PV, Solar Hot Water and Solar Air (space heating).
  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site, system design, potential greenhouse gas offsets and a quote for each of the systems that would meet your specific needs.
  • Also includes an analysis of opportunities for reduction of electrical consumption and hot water consumption  to help compliment your system.

*The cost of this assessment will be credited against the cost of installing your system if you choose VREC as your supplier and  installer.

Commercial Systems Assessment – $400

  • This service applies to commercial buildings. For a more extensive or custom assessment, hourly consulting rates may apply in addition.
  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site for three different solar energy systems – Solar PV, Solar Hot Water and Solar Air (space heating).
  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site, system design, potential greenhouse gas offsets and a quote for each of the systems that would meet your specific needs.
  • Also includes an analysis of opportunities for reduction of electrical consumption and hot water consumption  to help compliment your system.

Custom Renewable Energy Assessments

  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site for any renewable energy systems – Solar PV, Solar Hot Water, Solar Air (space heating), geo-exchange (also called ground source heat pump or geothermal) and wind.
  • Includes a report of potential energy production at your site, system design, potential greenhouse gas offsets and a quote for each of the systems .  Option of estimating power production from wind from the the nearest weather station or from on-site monitoring.
  • Also includes an analysis of opportunities for reduction of electrical consumption and hot water consumption  to help compliment your system.
  • Engineering and Design Services – Professional engineer certification of design or other special design services beyond the scope of our usual assessment package are available for an additional charge. Fee varies based on exact service required. Please inquire at time of booking your appointment.
  • Option of including permaculture redesign of entire property in partnership with Salish Sun Permaculture
