Solar as a back-up “generator”

A Solar Back-up System on Burnaby Residence

The recent storms and power outages here on BC’s south coast have many people thinking about how to generate power when the grid goes down.  A solar photovoltaic (PV) system combined with a battery array is one option to consider.

A fossil fuel standby generator is usually less expensive up-front.  But the fuel costs to run the generator can add up.  There is also the pollution and noise associated with this equipment.

A solar and battery system not only provides clean and quiet power but if it is grid-tied it can also help you reduce your electrical bill when the grid is up.  Costs can range from under $700 for a small portable solar back-up system to $30,000 for a larger grid-tie system.

We can work with you to design a system that meet your needs and budget.

Here are some examples of back-up systems we sell and install:

Summary of Solar Battery Back-up Systems
Portable 1 252 Wh $505
Portable 2 336 Wh $709
Off-grid 1 1440 Wh $6,285
Small grid-tie (equipment only) 1440 Wh $7,272
Small grid-tie (inc. installation) 1440 Wh $9,482

These prices include a single solar PV module.  In most cases additional modules can be added.
