Update:  The exemption has been restored.  See: http://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/topic/BED47DA4EBDBA60A5F28622B8B2E1451/uploads/pst_exemption_and_refund_regulation.pdf

The BC government is re-introducing the PST this spring.  Under the prior PST program renewable energy systems (for example solar and wind) purchased in BC  had a permanent exemption from the PST.  Although the the government has promised to include all previous permanent exemptions in the new tax, renewable energy is not mentioned in the draft legislation (see: http://www.leg.bc.ca/39th4th/3rd_read/gov54-3.htm ).  It has also not been included in the proposed amendments (see http://www.leg.bc.ca/39th5th/1st_read/gov02-1.htm).
